📜 History & Significance
The Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most iconic journeys on Earth, following the same route used by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay before their historic 1953 summit of Mount Everest (8,849m). The trail winds through the heart of the Khumbu region, homeland of the legendary Sherpa people whose mountaineering expertise and Buddhist faith have shaped the culture of the Himalayas for centuries.
The route passes through Sagarmatha National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and through ancient trading villages that once connected Tibet and India along the salt and wool trade routes. Tengboche Monastery, perched at 3,867m, is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in Nepal and a spiritual highlight of the journey.
For AryaGhat, this trek holds special meaning: the Khumbu region is home to rare high-altitude Rudraksha trees, and trekkers have the opportunity to witness and source sacred beads in their natural Himalayan habitat.
