📜 History & Significance
Pokhara is consistently ranked among the world’s top paragliding destinations, and it is easy to understand why. The city sits at the edge of the Pokhara Valley, with the mirror-like Phewa Lake below and the dramatic Annapurna Himalayan range — including the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Peak, 6,993m) — rising directly behind.
Paragliding from Sarangkot Hill (1,592m) has been practised since the early 1990s, when pioneering pilots discovered the extraordinary thermal conditions created by the interaction of warm valley air and cold Himalayan winds. Today, Pokhara hosts international paragliding competitions and is home to some of the world’s most experienced tandem pilots.
For AryaGhat, the flight over Pokhara carries spiritual resonance: Machhapuchhre is considered sacred to Lord Shiva and is the only major Himalayan peak that has never been summited — preserved as a holy mountain. Soaring alongside it is a rare and humbling privilege.
